Destructive bowling by South Africans in WC

South African team, which has always been known for their choking history in big tournaments in cricket, has finally managed to remove that tag from themselves, courtesy of their outstanding bowling in the first quarter final of the 2015 world cup.

The match was being played between Sri Lanka, one of the favourites of the world cup, and South Africa. Sri Lanka only managed to score 133 runs against attacking bowling of South Africans.

Today at the Sydney cricket ground that is known for a pitch that assists fast bowlers we saw the South African spinners just destroying the Srilankan batting line. Imran Tahir and J.P.Duminy took 7 wickets and helped their team catch an easy win in their quarter final.

The Sri Lankans had no clue against the bowling of both the spinners. Imran Tahir took 4 wickets to his name while Duminy bagged 3 which was in fact a hat trick. This hat trick was the first South African and it came for a part time bowler.

Imran’s four victims were Thirmane, Jayawerdene, Perera and Malinga. Thirmane was caught and bowl by Imran. Next Jayawerdene was caught at short mid wicket by Du Plesis on the bowling of Imran.

The third wicket for Imran was of T.Perera who was caught at slip after the ball deviated from the gloves of De Kock and went straight into the hands of Rossouwe. The final victim for Imran was Malinga who tried to smack him on the off side.

The ball went straight towards Miller who was fielding at covers and it also ended the Srilankan batting as well.

For Duminy the heavens were sending blessings one after the other. He was used as the fifth bowling option and he gave his team the first hat trick and also was very economical throughout his entire spell.

Duminy hat trick was of Matthews, Kulosekra and Kaushal. The first one to go was Matthews who tried to hit him over the fielder standing at short mid wicket but could not gave his hit the height needed.

Du Plesis took an easy catch to give Duminy his first wicket. The next to go was Kulosekra who in an effort to defend a ball gave an outside edge to the keeper De Kock who made no mistake in availing the opportunity.

Duminy had 2 on 2 and the third was on Kaushal on the very next ball. A straight ball that Kaushal totally missed and ball hit the back leg which was covering his stumps. It was an easy decision for the umpire and there it was hat trick for Duminy.

Overall it was a poor batting effort from the Srilankan tea. The pitch was helping the fast bowlers withthe extra bounce but they gave away their wickets to the spinners especially the ones given to Duminy was not good.

A part timer took three of the major wickets of the Srilankan team and this pushed them right on the back foot to a stage from where they never retrieved and resulted in causing a batting collapse.
